65th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University and the Annual Songkran Festival 2025

On April 4, 2025, the Faculty of Tropical Medicine organized the 65th Anniversary Celebration of the Faculty’s Establishment and the Annual Songkran Festival 2025. The ceremony was led by Associate Professor Dr. Wirapong Phumiratanaphiphin, Dean of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, who presided over the merit-making ceremony and alms offering, accompanied by the executive committee, faculty members, staff, and members of the Tropical Medicine Alumni Association. This was followed by a worship ceremony at the Faculty’s shrine and the presentation of floral garlands to pay homage to the monument of His Royal Highness Prince Mahidol Adulyadej, the Father of Modern Medicine and Public Health in Thailand, to bring auspiciousness as the Faculty enters its 65th year of establishment.

During the Anniversary Celebration ceremony, Assistant Professor Dr. Teera Kusolsuk, Associate Dean for Welfare and Special Affairs, reported on the objectives of the event. The Faculty was honored to have Professor Emeritus Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, Chairman of Mahidol University Council, as the presiding guest for the opening ceremony, along with congratulatory remarks from Associate Professor Dr. Somphop Prathanturarug, Acting Vice President for Strategic Planning, Quality Development, and Social Mission, representing the Rector of Mahidol University.

On this occasion, the Faculty organized a special lecture, where Associate Professor Dr. Wirapong Phumiratanaphiphin, Dean of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, introduced Professor Emeritus Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, Chairman of Mahidol University Council, as the keynote speaker on the topic “Developing Mahidol University Towards Sustainability.” The event was attended by administrators and faculty members from various departments. This was followed by an awards ceremony and congratulations for personnel who received awards and academic and professional promotions for the years 2024-2025, honoring staff members who have brought recognition to the organization.

The Annual Songkran Festival 2025 was held under the theme “Songkran Thai Way, Enjoying Temple Fair ‘Tropical Style'” at Quinine Plaza, Faculty of Tropical Medicine, Mahidol University. Assistant Professor Dr. Teera Kusolsuk, Associate Dean for Welfare and Special Affairs, delivered the opening report, and Associate Professor Dr. Wirapong Phumiratanaphiphin, Dean of the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, presided over the traditional ceremony opening. Activities included the ceremonial bathing of Buddha images for auspiciousness, sand pagoda building competitions, temple fair game booths including balloon popping, ring toss, and shooting games for prizes, traditional brass music accompanying folk dancing activities. Additionally, there were various food stalls and opportunities to casually enjoy Songkran traditions.
